John Swaim

John S. Swaim, 66, 1201 Hammond avenue, died at University hospital in Iowa City at 4:30 a.m. Sunday. He had been a patient there for a week.

He was born February 1, 1891, in Appanoose county, the son of Blake and Alice Robb Swaim. He had been a resident of Ottumwa for the past 30 years. He was married April 12, 1908, at Unionville to Ethel Ellison, who survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Orris and Basil Swaim, both of Maxwell, and Dwight Swaim of Ottumwa; three daughters, Mrs. Gladys Tollefson of Huxley, Mrs. Clella Zimmerman of Nashville, Tenn., and Mrs. Erma Jean Jones of near Agency; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Laura Sancers of Seattle, Wash. He was preceded in death by a son in infancy, a brother and two sisters.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Johnson funeral chapel in charge of the Rev. L.C. Card, pastor of the First Church of the Open Bible. Burial will be in the Eben Taylor cemetery near Unionville
