Catherine Newquist

OTTUMWA -- Catherine M. Newquist, 80, 1204 Richmond, died Feb. 19, 2005 at Iowa Methodist Hospital, Des Moines.

She was born Feb. 25, 1924 near Dudley to Albert E. and Ethel Nye Newquist. She graduated from Agency High School in 1942, attended Parsons College and graduated from Drake University in 1956. She taught in the Ottumwa school district, retiring from Wilson School in 1986. She was a member of P.E.O. Chapter G, two book clubs, First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women Faith Circle, Women's Club, Delta Kappa Gamma and Retired Teachers, made button dolls and did needlepoint.

She is survived by two brothers, Leland (Ava) Newquist, rural Agency; Philip (Vivian) Newquist of Agency; a sister, Marian (Bob) Dimmitt of Agency; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church, Revs. Lon Lewis and Marilyn Gregory officiating.

Open visitation will be today at 9 a.m. at Robertson-Jay Funeral Home. Family visitation will be 6:30-8 p.m. today.

Burial will be a Columbia Cemetery near Chillicothe.
