OTTUMWA — Maxine E. Dawson Moffit McCullough, 85, of 5987 S. Madison Ave., died at 5:45 a.m. July 23, 2009, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.She was born Sept. 3, 1923, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Benjamin and Margaret Crane Dawson. She married Marion "Pete" Moffit Dec. 24, 1943. He preceded her in death Sept. 15, 1993. She married Harold McCullough July 3, 1999.A graduate of Exline High School, she attended American Institute of Business in Des Moines.She was a member of the Church of the Brethren and had been a volunteer for Hospice, Ottumwa Regional Health Center, Camelot Towers and Knoxville Veterans.Surviving is her husband, Harold; a daughter, Penny Burkhalter of Palmyra, Mo.; two sons, Jim Moffit of Chesterfield, Mo., and Dennis Moffit of O'Fallon, Mo.; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ben Dawson of Centerville and Frank Dawson of Texas; and many nieces and nephews. Family was very important to her.She was preceded in death by two brothers, Bob Dawson and Dale Dawson.Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Dennis Doud officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday with the family present from 2-4 p.m.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Church of the Brethren, 1212 W. Williams, Ottumwa, Iowa 52501 or Hospice, P.O. Box 1150, Ottumwa, Iowa 52501.
