BLAKESBURG — Larry Lee Van Cleave, 70, of Blakesburg, died Saturday, July 4, 2009, at home.He was born July 13, 1938, in Blakesburg to Clyde and Mabel Swaim Van Cleave.He married Marilyn McAlister April 6, 1961, in Albia.A 1956 graduate of Blakesburg High School, he served in the U.S. Army. He retired from Rainbow Inc.Survivors include one son, Brian L. Van Cleave of Blakesburg; one daughter, Teresa (James) Balmer of Altoona; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Donald (Virginia) Van Cleave of Bellevue, Neb., and Richard (Joyce) Van Cleave of Blakesburg; one sister, Charlene Fletcher of Danville, Ill.; and special friends, Barney, Lucy, Lucky and Wilbur.He was preceded in death by his wife; a daughter, Tina; and his parents.Burial was in Blakesburg Cemetery.Memorials may be made to Heartland Humane Society.Knedler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
