OTTUMWA — Dorothy M. Brewer, 82, of Demopolis, Ala., formerly of Ottumwa, died July 2, 2009, at Demopolis, Ala.She was born July 29, 1926, in Bloomfield, Iowa, to Van Albert and Dora Marie Sprain Donnelly. She married Joseph Franklin Brewer in Bloomfield in 1959. He preceded her in death June 14, 2002.A graduate of Indian Hills Community College, she was an LPN and ADN. She earned the highest LPN State Boards in 1966.She was the former Director of Nursing at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Ottumwa from 1963 to 1982 and Director of Nursing at St. Joseph Hospital in Ottumwa from 1982 to 1990, retiring in 1990.Surviving are her children, Frances D'Angelo and husband Robert of Galveston, Texas, Susan Skerbinc-Gee of Tucson, Ariz., Elissa Skerbinc-Heller and husband Jacob of Seattle, Wash., and Joseph Skerbinc and wife Sheryl of Demopolis, Ala.; 10 grandchildren, Jennifer Pursley of Houston, Texas, Kimberly Gee of Tucson, Ariz., Andrea White of Seattle, Wash., Jordan White of Lake Forest, Calif., Keenan Heller of Seattle, Wash., Eric Skerbinc, of Boone, N.C., Jason Skerbinc of Boone, N.C., Jessica Skerbinc of Demopolis, Ala., Debbie Myers of Norwalk, Iowa, and Fred Myers of Norwalk, Iowa; seven great-grandchildren, Tricia D'Angelo, Alexis Pursley and Annabelle Pursley, all of Houston, Texas, Ashlynn Skerbinc and Lucas Skerbinc, both of Boone, N.C., Josh Myers and Amber Myers, both of Norwalk, Iowa; a sister, Ann Hill of Streator, Ill.; a brother, Gene Donnell of Streator, Ill.She was preceded in death by three brothers, George, Richard and Robert Donnelly; and a sister, Frances Hill.Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, July 11, 2009, at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Phil Griffith officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Inurnment will be in Shaul Cemetery.Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Friday with the family present from 5-7 p.m. Friday.In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Demopolis Humane Account, c/o Lucille Carpenter, 169 Bell Grayson Road, Demopolis, Ala., 36732.
