OTTUMWA — James Edward Bukowski "Jim," 79, formerly of Ottumwa, Iowa, died Friday at his residence in Lake Jackson, Texas, with his family at his side.He was born to Joseph and Hazel Bukowski on March 1, 1930, in Ottumwa. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. After serving in the Navy for 23 years and retiring, Jim pursued his passion for cooking and became an instructor at Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa.Jim is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Bukowski; two brothers, Joe Jr. and Richard; and his beloved dog Peanut.He is survived by two sisters, Mary Doyle and Patricia Veldman; his brother, Don Bukowski; two sons, Michael and James Jr.; three daughters, Karen Bukowski, Cynthia Leedom and Michelle Chapman; seven grandchildren, Jeremy, Ben and Jason Bukowski, Nicholas Leedon, Kendall Barajas, Michael and Daniel Gutierrez; and four great-grandchildren, Brittany and Timothy Bukowski, Alejandro Barajas and Alora Bukowski.Funeral services are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2009, in the Palms Funeral Home Chapel.Visitation will be Tuesday, June 30, 2009, from 6-8 p.m. at Palms. Burial will be in the Houston National Cemetery.
