John Knox

Ottumwa -- John Franklin Knox, 97, of 131 W. Alta Vista Ave. died Feb 1, 1991 at Ottumwa Manor.

He was born Nov. 13, 1893 to James Francis and Hannah Scully Knox. He married Louise Isabella Fletcher on Dec. 14, 1916 in Ottumwa. He had worked in the wheat fields of Kansas and Nebraska before going to Canada, where he planted trees along Canada Trans 1. He had been employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 49 years before retiring on Nov. 30, 1963, as Ottumwa assistant postmaster.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, James F. of Blakesburg, John F. (Jack) of Ottumwa and William H. of Longmont, Color; two daughters, Dorothy Fields of Boulder, Colo and Rosemary McCauley of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild and a brother, Ellis Knox of Ottumwa.

The service will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Shrine of Memories Funeral Home in Ottumwa, the Rev. David McCann of East End Presbyterian Church in Ottumwa officiating. Entombment will be at Shrine of Memories Mausoleum.

Visitation is open at the funeral home. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today. A memorial may be made to East End Presbyterian Church.
