Workman Victim of Heart Attack
Coroner States Heat Contributing Factor To Death Of Fletcher

Herbert Chisholm Fletcher, 50 years old, 2010 East Locust street, died about 3 p.m. Thursday from an acute heart attack while he was removing old brick from his son’s property at Ash and East Main streets.

Dr. L. R. Wellstead, Wapello county coroner, said that the heat was probably a contributing cause of the heart attack.

Fletcher was working with his son, Will Fletcher, who had purchased the old H E. Platt residence on Ash street and was cleaning up the property, it was stated. Fletcher was hauling material from the basement.

Born in England, Fletcher came to this country in 1890 and has lived in Ottumwa since that time. During his lifetime here he has been engaged as a painter and decorator.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Alma Fletcher; one son, Will Fletcher of Ottumwa; two daughters; Mrs. Arthur Pomeroy and Mrs. John Knox, both of Ottumwa; a brother, George, also of Ottumwa, and eleven grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Lester Jay funeral home. The Rev. L.H. Mathews, rector of Trinity Episcopal church, will be in charge. Burial will be in the Ottumwa cemetery.

The body will be at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Arthur Pomeroy, 1416 East Locust street, from 6 o’clock tonight until 10 a.m. Saturday.
