James {Jimmy} Mitchell Lanigan

Birth: Apr. 20, 1941
Death: Aug. 13, 1978

"SON OF JAMES & OLLIE E. ELLIS ADAMS SELLWOOD LANIGAN

Born at Ottumwa Iowa at family home on Pershing Avenue. Brother of Mary Ellen, Helen Elizabeth and Anna Marie Lanigan. Grandson of James and Anna Lanigan and Helen and Robert Bennett. Died from a bad heart which he had had since being born a blue baby. He had a hard life. He died at the County Home. We had lost track of him from the time he was taken from Glenwood State Hospital and placed unbeknown to us in Ottumwa. The home in Glenwood lost his records and could not tell us where he was transfered to. All those years we wondered if he had died. It wasn't until he fell on the ice at the home that they contacted the only Lanigan in Ottumwa and told them about Jimmy being in the hospital~~~That is how we finally found him but about 3 months later they found him dead in the rest room at the home~~I visited Ottumwa many times after I moved to California and didn't see him from 1960~1978. Unbelievable story but true.
