Eugene Joseph Whelan 74, of 138 N. Willard died at St. Joseph Hospital today at 11:25 am. following a short illness.

A retired Dog Trainer, he was born in Ottumwa Nov. 8, 1893 to Michael J. and Margaret Reardon Whalen.He had lived here most of his life and was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He was a Veteran of WW I.

Surviving are six brothers; Lawrence C., and Lewis R. of Omaha, Gerald C. of Los Angeles, John V. of Davenport, Michael J. of Grand Island, NEB, and Thomas O'Farrell of Ottumwa, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at St. Patrick's Catholic Church Wednesday at 9 a.m. with the Rev. Gerald Hoenig, assistant pastor of the church will celebrate a Requiem High Mass. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Members of St. Patricks and friends will meet at Traul Funeral Home at 3 o'clock tonight to recite the Rosary.
