Miss Sarah Cecelia Whalen 95, of 1005 West Second Street died at 3:30 a.m. today at St. Joseph Hospital.

She was the daughter of Thomas and Catherine Boyle Whelan and ws born Aug. 22, 1862 at Toronto, Canada.She came to Ottumwa in 1867 and has lived her since that time. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Alter and Rosary Society.

She was preceded in death by seven brothers, and two sisters. She made her home with a niece Mrs. Mary Strain for the past 31 years.

Funeral services will be at 8:30 a.m. Friday at Vaughn Funeral Home and at 9:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church. A Requiem High Mass will be celebrated by Rev. Msg. W.E. Cullinan. Members of St. Mary's Church Alter and Rosary Society and friends will meet at 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Vaughn Funeral Home to recite the Rosary. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

PS~~Name is spelled Whalen and Whelen in the same family. Mary Strain mentioned in obit was the daughter of Sarah Lanigan and was the wife of Clyde Strain; both buried at Calvary.
