M.J.76, Whalen retired railroad clerk who served 35 years with local railroads; a life time resident of Ottumwa died at 7:00 a.m. today at St. Joseph's Hospital. His home was at 156 North Willard.

He was born September 28, 1869 and was a railroad clerk for many years. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and of the Holy Name Society.

Survivors include his wife Margaret; eight sons; Eugene J. Whalen Landon Lake WISC., Lawrence J. Whalen of Omaha, Vernon J. Whalen Cedar Rapids, James C. Whalen Culver City CA., O'Farrell of Ottumwa, Lewis R. Whalen of Council Bluffs, Michael F. Whalen of Fullerton, NEB., and Gerald C. Whalen of Los Angeles, CA.; two sisters; Mrs. Charles Sehl, and Miss Sarah Lanigan Whalen both of Ottumwa; 19 grandchildren and one great~grandchild.

The body was moved to Traul Funeral Home pending arrangements.

The body was taken from Traul Funeral Home to the home at 156 North Willard Street Sunday morning, and at 9 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church. A Requiem High Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. T.C. Donohoe.

Pallbearers will be Martin O'Hara, William Hastletines, A.J. Schwartz, Moral Appel, Frank Gibbons, and Rudolph Melcher. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
