OTTUMWA — Dolla C. “Dolly” Tharp, 86, of 1202 S. Madison, died at 3:30 a.m. Oct. 5, 2008, at Good Samaritan Society, Ottumwa.

She was born Jan. 6, 1922 in Spickard, Mo. to William U. and Ruba Ann Holt Wilson. She married Vere D. Tharp June 11, 1938 in Princeton, Mo. He preceded her in death Jan. 15, 1972.

Dolla worked at Maytag in Newton, the Ordinance Plant in Burlington, the Mental Health Institute in Mount Pleasant, a Home Maker for Wapello County and at the snack bar at the Coliseum in Ottumwa. She was a member of Ottumwa Baptist Temple. She enjoyed auction sales and walking at the mall.

Surviving are a longtime friend and companion, Garold “Shorty” Vincent; two daughters, Meredith Nicholson of Lewisville, Texas and Marita (Ed) Campbell of Ottumwa; three grandchildren, Michelle (David) Stone of Flower Mound, Texas, Phillip (Sarah) Nicholson of Clive, Iowa and Amanda (Terry) Roling of Ottumwa; five great-grandchildren, Andrea Stone, David, Matthew and Barbara Nicholson and Lydia Roling.She was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Bob Nicholson; a sister, Leafa McClure; and a brother, Albert Wilson.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Miller officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Friday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.A memorial has been established to Alzheimer’s Association.
