She was a member of St. Patrick's Church and the Alter and Rosary Society. On August 10, 1903 she married William C. Whalen at St. Patricks Church in Ottumwa.

Survivors include four sons; Thomas Whalen of Thomasburg, ILL., Farrell Whalen of Springfield, ILL., John Whalen of Washington, ILL., and William Whalen of Van Nuys, CA;10 grandchildren and one great~grandchild, and one sister Mrs. Vern Wilson of Ottumwa.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1936, and two sisters and one brother.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Church with the Rev. Gerald Hoenig and will celebrate a Requiem Mass. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery.

Members of St. Patrick's Parish and friends will meet Friday at 8 p.m. in the Traul Funeral Home to recite the rosary.

note: Surname is spelled Whalen and Whelan but they are all the same family. Even on the tombstones it reads Whelan and Whalen, and even in obits it reads as both spellings. I think Whelen was the original version of this.
