Maxine Helwig 66 of 2216 N. Jefferson died at 3:25 p.m. Sunday at University Hospital at Iowa City.

She was born Aug. 17, 1917 at Quincy, Illinois to Henry W. and Hollie C. Clark Semple. She grew up in Oskaloosa; taught school in Tracy in 1939 and in Oskaloosa in 1940 and 1941. She moved to Ottumwa in 1942 where she taught for several years.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, P.E.O., Chapter IN, T.T.T., Wapello White Shrine Number 4 and a past member of the order of Eastern Star Chapter 552. She married H. Dale Helwig June 18, 1939 at Oskaloosa.

Survivors; her husband and a daughter Linda Lyon of Peru, ILL.

The service will be 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church; the Rev. Neil Guy officiating.Burial will be in Corydon Cemetery.

The casket will be closed at the beginning of the service. The family will be at Reece Funeral home from 7~9 p.m. today. A memorial has been established to her church.
