William Guffey Jr.
OTTUMWA — William Lewis “Skeeter” Guffey, Jr., 72, of 822 Ellis Ave. entered into rest at 6:56 p.m. Aug. 23, 2008 at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

He was born Oct. 28, 1935 in Plano, Iowa to William Lewis and Edith Eleanor Leopard Guffey. He married Loretta Faye Sleeth Dec. 18, 1960.

Following high school, he served two years in the Air Force, worked at Rockwell in Fairfield for two years and then John Deere Ottumwa Works for 30 years, retiring in 1996.

He is survived by his wife, Loretta Faye; two sons, U.S. Army (Ret) William Lewis Guffey III, 104 W. Second North St. of Exline, Iowa, 52555 and Gregory (Robin) Guffey-Kauffman, 131 S. Elm of Ottumwa; two daughters, Marla (Jerry) Kerby, 835 S. Ransom of Ottumwa and Valerie Guffey at home; eight grandsons, Ryan Hall, Gregory Guffey Jr., Jesse Pilkington, Tanner Pilkington, Lucas Guffey, Jacob Pilkington, William Guffey IV and Quinton Guffey; one great-grandson, Zachary Guffey; several step-grandchildren; four brothers, Norman Leslie (Kay) Guffey of Centerville, Ralph Lester Guffey of Florence, Ky., Ronald Leroy Guffey of Numa and Dale Loren Guffey of Fairfield; three sisters, Ethel “Tommy” (Delbert) Thomas of Seymour, Tenn., Bonnie LaVelle Brassfield of Henderson, Nev., and Virginia (Don) Schiedel of Fairfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Bradley Curtis Guffey and a grandson, Zachary Curtis Guffey.His body has been cremated.The family will be present at Reece Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Crossroads Cemetery, west of Centerville.A memorial has been established to the family.
