OTTUMWA — Donald “D.J.” Jellings, 75, of 217 E. Golf, died at 10 a.m. Aug. 11, 2008 at Hospice House.He was born June 25, 1933 in Wadena, Iowa, to Arthur and Erna Augusta Brettschneider Jellings. He married Mary Jean Baskerville Feb. 10, 1957. She preceded him in death May 5, 1989.

He served with the Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict.He taught for nine years at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids and in 1965 he came to Ottumwa to teach at Iowa Tech which became Indian Hills Community College. He retired in 1995.He attended the First Lutheran Church and was a member of O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family, grandchildren and friends.

Surviving are two daughters, Julie (James) Marlay of Ottumwa and Lynn (Ethan) Miller of Glenwood, Iowa; a son, Ed (Marlene) Jellings of Ottumwa; three granddaughters, Jacci (Adam) Brandt, Ellie Miller and Anna Miller; a great-granddaughter, Adrianna Brandt; a special friend of many years, Pat McClanahan of Ottumwa; his mother, Erna Jellings of Fayette; two brothers, Duane (Darlene) Jellings of West Union and Gary (Barbara) Jellings of Volga. He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Jellings; and an infant son, Daniel Jellings.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Ralph Kister officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday.
