OTTUMWA — Ruth A. Jones, 91, formerly of 517 E. Vine St., died at 7:55 a.m., Aug. 11, 2008 at The Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa.She was born June 19, 1917 in Lancaster, Iowa, to William and Addie M. Mills Bales. She married Emery Jones April 18, 1942. He preceded her in death Nov. 27, 1977. She married Bernard Fulton April 14, 1984. He preceded her in death July 4, 2003.

She received a B.A. from Drake University and a M.A. from Northeast Missouri State University and taught school for 44 years. She retired from Davenport Community Schools in 1981.She was a member of Batavia United Methodist Church and had been a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, a life member of National Education Association, a life member of Iowa State Education Association, a life member of Davenport Community Schools Association, a member of Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority, Daughters of Union Veterans and A.A.R.P.

Surviving is a sister Mary Buckles of Davenport; 14 nieces and nephews, Betty Cox, Ernest Hill, Jack Hill, Bonnie Yoder, LaRue Kephart, Kenneth Bales, Florence Lampson, Louise Coon, Harold James, Addie Kay Giltner, Leota Jean Wolfe, Richard Buckles, Robert Buckles and Victoria Polich; numerous great- and great-great nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Kenneth, Virgil and Harlan Bales; three sisters, Leota Hancock, Gladys Hill, Lela James; two nephews, Vinton James and James HillFuneral services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Dvorak and Rev. Brian Gentz officiating. Burial will be in Friends Cemetery in Richland.Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday with family visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
