OTTUMWA — Daniel Woodrow Brown, 95, 11231 Bladensburg Road, Ottumwa died July 15, 2008, at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center.He was born to Daniel C. and Viola Pyle Brown in Laddsdale, Iowa, on June 12, 1913 and moved to Bidwell Iowa where his family farmed and worked the coal mines. On June 3, 1935 he married Lucia M. Hawkins and moved to Ottumwa. She preceded him in death May 6, 1995.As a carpenter he worked for Burkhalter Contractors and during W.W. II he worked for the CB and O Railroad five years before retiring from Kosman Brothers Home Improvements in 1975. He served as a Dahlonega Township Trustee for 15 years. In retirement he continued to use his carpentry skills helping many family and friends. In his later years, playing cribbage and fishing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, plus the company of family, friends, and pets were his greatest enjoyments.He was preceded in death by his wife; two sons, Daniel R. and Lawrence Dean; an infant brother, Dewey; six sisters, Buelah Beghtol, Erlena Hemm, Edna Shute, Frances Scott, Georgia Marsch and Madeline Lewis.Surviving is one sister, Ina Headlee (100 years old) of Michigan; grandchildren, Bonnie Jacobs of Shell Knob, Mo., Jeanette Harris of Des Moines; five great-grandchildren; as well as daughters-in-law, Shirley and Ruth; and many nieces and nephews.Services will be Tuesday, July 22 at 1 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Chapel, with Pastor David Tyree officiating. Burial will follow in Sioc Cemetery near Eldon.Open visitation will begin at 12 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, with family visitation on Tuesday morning between 9 and 11:30 a.m.Memorials may be made to the Wapello County Historical Society
