OTTUMWA — Joan Blum Dimmitt Kephart (April 13th, 1931 - July 2nd, 2008) passed after her graceful battle with cancer at the age of 77 years. In life, she was a farmer’s wife near Ottumwa, a gardener, mother, grandmother, student, teacher, sailor and dear friend to many. Before the term was invented, she was a Life Coach and helped many to ease their life journey. She was kind, compassionate, smart, caring, thrifty, honest, courageous, kooky and fun.Returning to college at age 40, she graduated from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College a year after her son and became a special education teacher for several years.She was a member of the Homeopathic Study Group and Englewood Book Club in Florida.Joan lived and worked in Venice, Fla., for many years and more recently in Englewood after spending a number of years traveling and living the RV lifestyle. She is survived by her husband Ken, daughter Lynn Iverson of Venice, Fla.; son Keith Dimmitt (Sandi); and grandsons, Tyson Dimmitt of Fairfield and Tobin Dimmitt of Iowa City.Jennings Funeral Home of Sarasota, Fla., is handling the arrangements. A Celebration of Life Ceremony is planned for late October.
