EDDYVILLE — William James Evans, 85, of Des Moines, formerly of Eddyville, died Monday, June 30, 2008, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.William was born Nov. 8, 1922 in Eddyville, Iowa to Gwylim and Fern (Lewis) Evans. He attended Eddyville schools and graduated from Eddyville High School class of 1940. William married Alice Lorraine Allison on June 30, 1940 in Missouri.William entered the U.S. Army and was in Patton 5th Armored division in World War II. After returning from the war William was a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the American Legion and the Masonic Lodge. He loved to watch sports especially football, dancing, traveling and spending time with his family.William is survived by his wife; six children; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.William was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers.Funeral services will be Thursday, July 3rd, at 1:30 p.m. at the Eddyville Chapel with Reverend Lois Williams officiating. Burial will be at the Highland Cemetery in Eddyville, Iowa, with military rites.Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 2nd with Masonic Service at 5:45 p.m. at the Eddyville Funeral Chapel. The family will be present from 6-8 p.m.Memorials may be made to the Eddyville Fire Department.Eddyville Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
