OTTUMWA — Gladys Harness, 91, of Hot Springs Village, Ark., passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2008 in Hot Springs Village, Ark.She was born Jan. 13, 1917 in New York, N.Y. to Charles Harper and Anna Schirmer Harper.

She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. She retired from Ottumwa High School, Ottumwa, Iowa where she worked as the cafeteria supervisor. After her retirement she worked as a nanny, this was her soul job, as she dearly loved children.

She is survived by one son, Joseph Harness and his wife Marilyn of Youngsville, N.C.; two daughters, Anna W. Emry and her husband Dick of Hot Springs Village, Ark., Carolyn R. Gage and her husband David of Handford, Calif.; one sister, Juanita Wright and her husband Clyde of Ottumwa, Iowa; 10 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Merle L. Harness; her parents; two brothers, Charles Penny and Frank Penny. Graveside service to be announced at a later time in Ottumwa, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of CederVale Funeral Home, Hot Springs Village, Ark.
