LOVILIA — Evelyn Emily McMillen, age 85, of Lovilia, Iowa, died Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at the Monroe Care Center in Albia. She was born May 19, 1922 in Ottumwa, Iowa to William and Hilda (Zumwalt) Toopes, and was raised by her grandparents, Chris and Mary Zumwalt. She married Arthur McMillen March 14, 1938 in Lancaster, Mo. He passed away November 17, 1969.

She was a homemaker. She enjoyed embroidery, baking pies, and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include children, Virginia (Danny) Weldon of Lovilia, Joyce (James) Harrison of Centerville, and Deloris Sullivan of Moravia, and one son Jess (Deborah) McMillen of Lovilia; 18 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, and nine great great grandchildren. She is also survived by two step-sisters, Ruth (Jim) King of Ottumwa, and Phyllis (Roy) Woods of Ottumwa, and very close friend, Shirley Plum of Lovilia.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Arthur; longtime companion, Gust Anderson; son Thomas; stepson; Jack McMillen; stepdaughter, Marilyn Carlson; one grandson, Kerry Kelly, one grandson in infancy, one great granddaughter; and four step-brothers, Harley Craft, Donald Craft, Lee Saner, and Wayne Saner.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 22, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Gilbert Funeral Home in Lovilia with Rev. Jill Leveck officiating. Burial will follow in Hamilton Cemetery in Hamilton, Iowa. Visitation will open after 1 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2008 with the family being present from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday evening at the Gilbert Funeral Home, Lovilia Chapel.Memorials may be directed to Hamilton Cemetery.
