BLAKESBURG — Jack B. McClure, 84, of rural Blakesburg, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.He was born April 1, 1923 in Ottumwa to Harley and Buena Hicks McClure.

He married Retha Beall on October 15, 1944.A graduate from Ottumwa High School in 1941, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945. In 1975, after 30 years, he retired from John Deere Ottumwa Works. He farmed in rural Blakesburg for 53 years.

He was a member of the Christianburg United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of O.B. Nelson Post No. 3 of the American Legion.

Surviving is his wife; three children, Ron (Evelyn) McClure of Roseville, Calif., Bob (Marianne) McClure of Keller, Texas, Connie (Terry) Moffit of McHenry, Ill.; two grandsons, Michael and Ryan Moffit and two sisters, Mary (Bill) Hissink of Ottumwa and Joyce (Don) Smart of Monument, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, James McClure. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Matheney officiating. Burial will be in Chisman Cemetery near Blakesburg. Military services will be conducted by O.B. Nelson Post No. 3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post No. 775 Veterans of Foreign Wars.Visitation will begin after 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Christiansburg United Methodist Church.
