George W. Courtney 69, a former Ottumwan; died after a heart attack while driving on a turnpike near Kansas City, Kansas Sunday.

He and his wife had made their home in Truth of Consequence, New Mexico for the past three years and were en route back to Ottumwa to live.

After the death of her husband Mrs. Courtney suffered a stroke and was hospitalized, where she will remain for several weeks.

Courtney was born Aug. 29, 1892, the son of George W. and Mary Edna Kent Courtney, and worked in Ottumwa as a machinist for many years. He was a thirty two year member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Courtney served over seas in WW I, and was a Veteran of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include his wife Goldie; two sons; Charles of Newton and Virgil of Hiteman; two stepsons; Charles and Clifford Winters of Montour; two grandchildren, one step grandchild; one brother Earl Courtney of Knoxville, and one sister, Bertha Courtney of Ottumwa.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Community Funeral Home. Rev. Stanton Johnson, pastor of the First Pentecostal Church of God will be in charge. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery; with Military Rites conducted by VFW members.
