09/06/2004 Courtesy of the Ottumwa ourierOTTUMWA - John D. Ancell, 87, of 333 S. Davis died at 8:20 a.m. September 4, 2004, at his home.
He was born January 22, 1917, in Pike County, Illinois, to Henry and Anna Davis Ancell. He married Mina L. Housley January 12, 1947. She preceded him in death October 6, 1994.
A resident of Ottumwa most of his life, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked at Barkers and John Deere Ottumwa Works, retiring in 1979.
Surviving is a son, Alan (Kim) Ancell of Ottumwa; a daughter, Susie Pickerell of Ottumwa; two stepsons, Barry (Shirley) COLLETT of Burlington and Ronnie (Cinda) Collett of Eldon; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by three brothers, Gene, Charles and Jim; and three sisters, Freda, Letha and Nancy.
Graveside services and burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Shaul Cemetery. Military services will be conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post No. 775 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post No. 3 of the American Legion.
Visitation will begin after 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
A memorial has been established to the family.
