Jesse Jacquinot, 88, Ottumwa

OTTUMWA~Jesse Napoleon Jacquinot, 88, died at 3 p.m. March 2, 2006, at Vista Woods Care Center.

He was born August 8, 1917 in Ottumwa to Jesse LaVelle and and Agnes Leona Hartley Jacquinot. He married Lucille "Lucy" P. Griffin on July 6, 1946 in Washington, D.C. Lucy died September 30, 2001.

He was a resident of Ottumwa all of his life except during his years in the military service from 1944-1946. During World War II, he was with the U.S. Army, stationed near Washington, D.C., and that is where he met his wife, which he described as "a perky Italian U.S. Navy Wave."

He owned Jacquinot Grocery from 1946 to 1967. He was active with baseball teams as a sponsor, coach and player. He was a long time coin collector and was active in numerous church-related activities. He enjoyed traveling all over the United States upon retiring from the grocery business.

He is survived by a son, M. Mark (Shobha) Jacquinot of Schenectady, New York; three daughters, Carol (Russ) Myers of Ottumwa, Lorraine Little (Scott Douglass) of Big Bear Lake, California and Marilyn Jacquinot of Sarasota, Florida; four grandchildren, Stephanie Nord of Ashland, Oregon, Brent (Lisa) Myers of Lincoln, Nebraska, Jason (Tina) Little of Huntington Beach, California, and Anna Jacquinot of Schenectady, New York; two greatgrandchildren, Willow Mykelti and Larissa Myers; a brother, Clarence Jacquinot of Ottumwa; a sister, Margaret Landry of North Port, Florida, as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mabel Grimes and Sylvia Umphress; an infant brother, Floyd Leroy Jacquinot; and an infant sister, Mary Louise Jacquinot.

The body has been cremated.

A family memorial service will be held at a later date when all of his children can be present.

Memorials may be made to Vista Woods Care Center or Hospice, and sent in care of Reece Funeral Home, 607 E. Second St., Ottumwa, IA 52501.
