— OTTUMWA~~Irene M. Howk, 84, of Ottumwa, died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2006 at Vista Woods Care Center in Ottumwa.

Born Oct. 6, 1922 in Wapello County, she was the daughter of Aubrey and Helen Arandus Snook. She married Elvin Earl Howk on April 13, 1941 in Agency. They were lifelong residents of Ottumwa. He died March 26, 1995.

Irene was a member of the Davis Street Christian Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. She loved gardening, animals, was an excellent caretaker and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Sam Howk; two sisters, Gladys Given and Miriam Wheeler; and one brother, Donald Snook.

Survivors include her daughter, Janice (Tony) Berger of Calamus, Iowa; one son, Mark Howk of Ottumwa; three grandchildren, Kelli Bankson, Wm. Sean Berger and Shannon Koester-Noel; five great-grandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2006 at 1 p.m. at Davis Street Christian Church with Tom Carpe officiating. Visitation will be Monday evening from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Shrine of Memories Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
