DeWAYNE GUTHRIE

WENDELL~~ DeWayne (Red) Guthrie, 67, of Wendell, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 1990 at the Vetrans Hospital in Boise.

He was born March 18, 1922, near Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of Leonard and Pearl Guthrie. He was educated in the Highland Center schools. He joined the National Guard after leavng school. He later joined the U.S. Army during World War 11, serving in Scotland, England and Germany. During the war he served as a special photographer doing secret work in Germany for the U.S. Air Force.

He was married in Scotland during the war and later divorced. After the war, he returned to the United States and served in the Air Force in Montana before serving two years in Vietnam. He retired from the service as a Staff Sgt. after serving his country for 22 years. He had lived in Wendell and worked for the Feed and Seed Mill and also delivered farm chemicals to this area for several years. He also worked in the Shoshone area.

Surviving are one daughter; Seonida Margaret Guthrie of Scotland; two brothers, Arlo Guthrie of Tucson, Ariz., and Richard Guthrie of Rock Island, Ill.; two sisters Gwenivere Grimes of Des Moines, Iowa, and Evelyn Biggs of Fremont, Iowa.

The graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Wendell Cemetery, with military rites by the Wendell American Legion Post No. 41. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at Damaray's Wendell Chapel.
