OTTUMWA — Marilyn Joyce McAntire, 67, of 2306 W. Main, died at 8:23 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2007, in the Hospice Room at Oakwood Nursing and Rehab Center in Albia.

Marilyn was born July 22, 1940 to Leslie and Velma Hopkins Carnahan in Ottumwa, Iowa.She spent most of her life in Ottumwa, but did live in the Memphis, Tenn. area for a few years. Most of her life, Marilyn worked in health care facilities, working several years in the kitchen of Jefferson Square Manor and retiring from the laundry department at Ottumwa Good Samaritan. She enjoyed traveling as much as possible, visiting most of the 50 states. She enjoyed Bingo, playing the slots and visiting new casinos in the area.

Marilyn became active in veteran’s groups after meeting her husband, Dwayne McAntire. They were married on Sept. 12, 2000. She was a life member of the VFW #775 Ladies Auxiliary (Ottumwa), the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary (DAVA) #20 (Des Moines) and the Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) Associates #667 (Ottumwa). She was the current Sr. Vice for the DAVA #20 and was a Past President of the VFW Auxiliary #775 and Past Treasurer of the DAVA #1 (Ottumwa). Marilyn was proud of her family and spoke of them often.

She is survived by her husband, Dwayne; three children, Randy (Kim) Thomas of Muscatine, Nancy (Dennis) Moss of Ottumwa and Greg (Rachel) Thomas of Ottumwa; two stepsons, Dan (Kadena) and Doug (Martha) McAntire of Ottumwa; a brother, Larry (Cheryl) Carnahan of Ottumwa; a foster brother, Rick Ashby of Ottumwa; 10 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; and many special friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Dennis Lee and Leslie Jr. Carnahan; and an infant granddaughter.Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Rod Reynoldson officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Friday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.Memorials may be made to Monroe County Hospice.
