OTTUMWA — Anthony Javier “Puff” Reyes, 21, of 627 N. Jefferson, died at 1:04 a.m. Nov. 21, 2007, surrounded by family and friends.

He was born Nov. 25, 1985 in Wichita, Kan. to Ruben and Glenda Byers Reyes.A graduate of Ottumwa High School in 2004, he played varsity football and baseball and was on the bowling team. He moved to Las Vegas, Nev. in 2004, where he worked at the Venetian Casino Celebration of Golf and Front Row Sports.

In 2006 he returned to Ottumwa where he was a student at Indian Hills Community College, he maintained a 4.0 average. He worked at Ashby’s Ice Cream and coached the YMCA Cheyenne Softball team, helped coach the eighth grade football team at Evans Middle School. He loved all sports, was an avid Hawkeye fan and enjoyed hunting and fishing.Surviving are his parents, Glenda and Stace Heckart, Ruben and Marilyn Reyes, all of Ottumwa; grandparents, Betty Byers of Ottumwa, Alidia Reyes of Santa Maria, Calif., Rick and Diane Heckart of Ottumwa; brothers and sisters, Erik, Dana and Austin Reyes, Kyle and Morgan Heckart all of Ottumwa; nephews, Blaze and Javen Rominger both of Ottumwa; his girlfriend, Jamie Callas of Ottumwa.

He was preceded in death by grandfathers, Jerry Byers and Jesus Reyes; and an uncle, Keith Byers.Funeral Mass will be 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Rev. John Spiegel officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 2 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. Friday.A Christian Wake will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Anthony Reyes Scholarship Fund.
