Pioneer Citizen of County Dies
David Ross Came Here Eighty-Five Years Ago; Was Born in Ohio
One of the pioneer residents of Wapello County, David Ross, 88, of 930 West Main Street, died at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Ottumwa Hospital.
Mr. Ross was the son of Richard and Sarah Ross and was born in Ohio, January 19, 1847, he came to Wapello county eighty-five years ago and has lived here since that time, the last two years in Ottumwa. He was a member of the Kirkwood Methodist Episcopal Church.
Surviving are his three sons, John of Kirkville, George of Eddyville and Isaac of Leighton; three daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Allison of Ottumwa, Mrs. Mary Brown of Eddyville route 3, and Mrs. Anna Wright of Ottumwa; 32 grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren. His wife, Rachel, preceded him in death 18 years ago.
Short funeral services will be held at Johnson's funeral chapel at 1:30 p.m. Sunday and at 2 p.m. at the Kirkville Methodist Episcopal church, conducted by the Rev. A.D. McClure. Burial will be made in the Kirkville cemetery.
