BURLINGTON ROAD WIRE CHIEF DIES

DeWitt D. Blake, 56, died at his home, 2707 North Court street, at 6:35 a.m. today. A resident of Ottumwa most of his life, he had been an employe of the Burlington railroad since 1905 and at the time of his death was serving as wire chief here.

Mr. Blake was the son of Charles B. and Ellen M. Blake and was born in Dickinson county, Kansas, September 7, 1887. He was married to Ann Bacher, of Burlington, who survives him.

He was a member of Ottumwa lodge No. 16 of the A.F. & A.M.; a member of the Burlington Veterans's association, a member of the E.C. Blackman chapter of Eastern Star at Burlington, and a member of lodge No. 227 of the A.O.U.W.

Surviving are his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Louise Morey of Omaha, Neb.; a sister, Mrs. Nellie Allen of Ottumwa, and a brother, Charles S. Blake of Blakesburg. Two nieces also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Lester Jay funeral home in charge of the Rev. Edward Day, pastor of the First Congregational church. Burial will be in Aspen Grove cemetery in Burlington with Masonic services to be held at the grave.
