Helen Lucille "Lucy" Burton (Leander), 86, died on May 9, 2007, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center and now dwells in the house of the Lord.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at the Good Samaritan Health Center and the Ottumwa Regional Hospital for the care provided to Lucille.

Lucy was born January 30, 1921, in Columbia Township, Wapello County, to Herman and LaRue Leander. She was a member of the Columbia Methodist Church in Chillicothe and more recently a member of the Willard Street Methodist Church in Ottumwa. She taught at a one-room schoolhouse and then worked at John Deere and John Morrell in Ottumwa. She marrIed John Burton in Chillicothe, Iowa, on February 12, 1954, who preceded her in death on January 13, 1970. She moved to Davenport in 1957, retiring in 1981 from Priester Construction, and returned to Ottumwa in 1988.

She was a child of God, surrounded by angels, living her life true and right, giving unselfishly to others. Nothing made her happier than time with family and friends and she will greatly be missed.

Lucy is survived by her daughter, Debra, and son-in-law, Stephen Clark, Princeton, Iowa; one son, John Michael, and daughter-in-law, Mary Burton, Chillicothe, Iowa; grandsons, Eric Gardner and Anthony Logan, Davenport; granddaughters, Elizabeth Burton, Wichita, Kansas, and Katie Burton, Chillicothe; two very special nieces and their families, Linda and Richard Lewman, of Eddyville, Iowa, and Joan and Gary West, of Ottumwa, Iowa; also the family of deceased niece, Judy Mitrisin (Joe Mitrisin).

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Francis Eugene, sister-in-law Marion Leander, niece, Judy Mitrisin, and several members from the Leander, Burton, Carman, and Akers families.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 12, 2007, at the Eddyville Funeral Chapel with Pastor Danny Cary officiating. Burial will follow in IOOF Chillicothe Cemetery in Chillicothe, Iowa.
Visitation will open to the public at 1 p.m. today and the family will be present from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Eddyville Funeral Chapel.
Memorials may be made to the family.
Through the Grace of God, Lucy had no pain in death and now in Heaven in the Lord's loving light.
