Bud was born in OTTUMWA, Iowa on Aug. 13, 1942 to the late Orville and Maxine (Hammersley) Hucks. Bud served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1963, stationed in Hawaii with the rank of Corporal.

On Feb. 9, 1964, Bud was united in marriage to Linda K. Canny. They moved to the Quad-Cities in 1964. He worked for John Deere from 1964 to 1971 and Caterpillar from 1980 to 1981. He was self-employed in the home improvement business for over 40 years. He sub-contracted for Fanth Home Improvement for 30 of those years and later became co-owner of Fanth Home Improvement from 1995 until 1999.

Along with his love for carpentry work, he enjoyed fishing trips, snow-mobile riding, golfing, family outings, and most of all, his grand-children. He rarely missed a “chat & chew” session at the “round table” at Mary Sue’s Cafe where he gathered with friends for over 35 years. Throughout the years, Bud spent countless hours helping family and friends with projects.

He was a member of NARI, serving over 12 years on the Board of Directors during which time he volunteered many hours for public projects. He was a member of the American Legion Post #26 and The Davenport Horticultural Society, serving as president in 1998 & 1999. He was one of the first to help build and plant the beautiful Stamp Lilac Garden in Duck Creek Park. Bud was a family man. His values and guidance have made a significant impact on many people’s lives. He will be deeply missed by many.

Bud is survived by his wife, Linda Hucks, Davenport; daughters , Marcia (Bobby) Bahrenburg, Tammy (Todd) Duett, and Barbara (Tim) Maynard, all of Davenport; sons, Jerry Smallwood, East Moline, Ill., and Jeremy Hucks, Davenport. He had ten grandchildren, including his daily companion grandson, Aaron; and five great grandchildren; brothers, Mickey (Kathy) Hucks, Ottumwa, and Denny Hucks, Gillette, Wyo.; sisters, Darlene (Jim) Johnson, San Diego, Calif., Sheila (Cecil) Jameson, Ottumwa, Iowa and Linda (Arney) Clemons, Riverside, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Peggy, Effie, Marilyn, and Jackie.

We would like to thank all the staff of the Oncology Unit and Hospice of Genesis Medical Center for their help and support.
