Melvin C. Shedenhelm 74 of 134 N. Graves Street died at his home at 7 a.m. today following several months of illness.

Mr. Shedenhelm was a farmer in Iowa and Wapello County prior to his employment at John Morrell and company 1943 to 1952; when he retired.

He was the son of Joshua and Mary Johnson Shedenhelm and was born in Bettsville, Ohio March 13, 1887. He had been a resident of Ottumwa for 43 years. He was a member of the Pleasant Grove Brethren church in Iowa county. His marriage to Bertha Cheney took place at Marengo in 1906. She survives.

Also surviving are four sons; Harley C., Eugene M., and Dale Shedenhelm of Ottumwa, and Kenneth L. of Sacramento, Ca.; four daughters; Mrs. Trever Adler, Mrs. Leona Moorhouse, Mrs. Eva Rounceville, and Mrs. Edward Edgington of Ottumwa; 34 grandchildren and several Great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son Leo in 1934 and a brother and two sisters.

The service will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral home; officiated by the Rev. C.S. Whitehouse of the Westminster Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.
