Ottumwa Courier December 22, 1900

Died at his home near Kirkville, Dec. 14, 1900.

The deceased was born in Harrison County, Ohio February 19, 1825. He moved with his parents to Tuscaras County, Ohio where on November 21, 1848 he was united in marriage to Miss Henrietta Van Buskirk, who survives him. To this union, seven children were born Osburn; of Lincoln, Nebraska, Charles of Bird City, Kansas, Frank of Foster, Iowa, Benjamin, Theophilus, James M. and Mrs. Martha Githens, of Kirkville.

Mr. Reed and family came to Iowa in 1865 and settled on a farm three miles southeast of Kirkville, where he has since resided. In the fall of 1867 he was united with the Christian church and remained a consistant member to the day of his death.

He was one of the oldest residents of this county and was highly esteemed for his many virtues. The funeral was held Sunday from the Christian church and was conducted by the Rev. D.W. Misener, of Ottumwa. His children were all present, his six sons acting as pallbearers. Interment was made in Kirkville Cemetery.
