OTTUMWA - GORDON "CONNIE" BENNETT, 90 of 1611 Greenwood Drive, died at 2:35 PM November 15, 2001 in Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

He was born March 21, 1911 in Hedrick, Iowa to HARRY A. and IMA DAVIS BENNETT.

A 1929 Hedrick High School Graduate, he moved to Ottumwa,Iowa and had a long public service career. He was building inspector and city manager and was MAYOR OF OTTUMWA 1962-1966. He was director of Manpower for the State of Iowa in Des Moines,Iowa. He was on numerous boards and commitees, including the executive board of the Iowa League of Municipalities. He was community coordinator for the Department of Labor research project and state chairman of the Cooperative Area manpower Planning System. He was a member of the State Advisory Committee Area Schools, Governors Commission on State and Local Government on Operations and Policy for Iowa Public Television and State Office for Planning and Programming. He received the 1981 Service Award from Indian Hills Community College Foundation.

Surviving is his wife.

The service will be 10 am today, Monday November 19, in Reece Funeral Home, the Rev. Duane MARBURGER officiating. Burial will be in Rock Creek Cemetery near OLLIE, IOWA.

Pallbearers will be Jim DELLINGER, Jim FRIESZ, Peter JOHNSON, Mark NEWMAN, Tom STEWART and John Stuart.

Memorials may be made to Indian Hills Community College Foundation of Ottumwa, Iowa.
