"Grand Railroad Celebration"
To be held at Ottumwa, Iowa September 1st, 1859

In honor of the completion of B. & M. R. R. seventy miles into the interier of Iowa.

Let the citizens of the Des Moines Valley Jubulate! Let them come forward and witness the "Iron Horse", and hear his neigh ringing from valley to plain; saluting the people, bringing glad tidings of prosperity and greatness to all.

Let the people welcome him to this rich valley! It will be a scene very appropriate and indiscribably grand!

"Officers of the Day"

President--Hon. George Gillaspy
Vice-Presidents--Alfred Lotpeich, James Hawley, and H.B. Hendershott.
Chaplain--Rev. B.A. Spaulding.
Chief Marshall--D.F. Gaylord; assistants G.W. Dresser, J. Hoack, J. Caldwell, Dr. Hinsley, D.C. Mitchell, J.T. Rowe, C. Carwille, A.W. Gaston, and Hurst.

"Order of the Day"

24 rounds of cannon at 4 o'clock A.M.--Great train of cars down by two engines will arrive at 11:30 A.M. Guests received by the Mayor and City Council. Reception speech by the Mayor, and response by Vice President Reid. Military companies received by the Ottumwa City Guards. Major Lauman's Brigades and Iowa Militia in full uniform will form, preceeded by several Brass Bands.

Next in Order-- Our invited guests, followed by the Fire Companies of Burlington, and the citizens of the county, when all will form a procession and proceed to the grounds north of the Railroad Depot, where dinner will be served.

After dinner, toasts, speeches, and music. The day will be enlivened by Military parade, firing of cannon and music. Fifteen hundred Military Men will be present. Everything has been set up on a grand and imposing scale.

The festivities will close in an appropriate manner.
