Matilda (Nellie) Sneath, granddaughter of Henry & Anna Sneath is my gr gr grandmother. She was the 9th child of 13 children of James (JB) Sneath and Martha Odell Sneath.
JB was born 25 Dec 1837 in Nottingham, England and died 12 July 1917 in Bentonsport, Iowa. He married Martha Odell 8 May 1856 in Salem, Iowa.
JB was a fifer in the civil war with C company, 25th Iowa Infantry, 3rd Brigade, 1st Division, 15th Army of Tennessee. He was mustered 11 Sept 1862 and mustered out 6 Jun 1865 in Washington, DC. He and Martha are buried at Hillsboro Cemetery in Hillsboro, Iowa. His fife was last known to be in the Rock Island Historical building in Moline, Illinois.
Martha Odell was born in Morgan County,Illinois. She was born approximately 1840 as her name appears in the Salem Twp, Henry County, Iowa census of 1850 showing her age to be 10 years.
JB's father, Henry Sneath was born 12 Nov 1812 in Nottingham, England and died 6 Jul 1890 in Salem, Iowa. He married Anna M. Henry, Anna and JB sailed from Liverpool, England 11 Feb 1853 on the ship "Charles Cooper" and arrived in New Orleans 1 Apr 1853. He and Anna are buried in the Hillsboro Cemetery. I have a picture of the gravestone of Henry and Anna Sneath if interested.
