George P. Stevens was a private in Co. "I", 19th Iowa Infantry. He along with most of that unit was captured at Stirling's Plantation, La., 9/29/1863, They were taken to Camp Ford a POW camp outside of Tyler, Texas where they were held until they were exchanged on July 22, 1864.
