What and where was this??

The attached link is a picture taken somewhere in Milton, in 1920. Between the man and woman to the right is an object in the air. Can anyone identify what it is, and where it was located? At first, I thought it was attached to the house, but it stands behind it, instead.
I am trying to find some properties owned by my family then, and the identification of this thing may lead to at least an area to search. Any help is appreciated.
