I believe your Alan Harman may be a brother to my ggrandfather, Samuel Harman (1873-1947). He was the son of Oliver Knox and Nirah (Palmer) Harman. Perhaps you could find a death record and obit for Allen if you get to Keosauqua. They also had a sister, Lettie. I don't have any info on her.
1895 VanBuren Co. census shows
O.K. Harman age 46
Nira age 45
Samuel age 23
Allen age 11
Letta age 8
