In Response To: Indian Prairie, Iowa (Jaelynne)

A search of the Van Buren Co GenWeb site turns up these references for "Indian Prairie":

http://www.rootsweb.com/~iavanbur/FactsAndFolklore/MississippiToHorshoeBend.htm

http://www.rootsweb.com/~iavanbur/placenamesvbcv1.htm

http://www.rootsweb.com/~iavanbur/FactsAndFolklore/Villages_27_47.htm

http://www.rootsweb.com/~iavanbur/abandonedtownsvbc.html

The short version:

Lebanon: This village started with a post office named Indian Prairie from 1843 to 1853.

I find only one reference to "Stringtown" which appears to not have been a specific place but a term commonly used for a "scattering" of settlers.
