One of our "brick" walls starts in Van Buren county Iowa.
I am looking for information on John Hartley born in 1863 in Upton, Iowa. I cannot find John on the 1880 US Census but I do find a possible brother James, about 8 years old, living with the William & Emma Webber family in Union township, Van Buren County. Any help will be great!
John Hartley was born March 17, 1863 near Upton, Iowa. Early in life he became an orphan and was raised by friends in Scotland County, Missouri. (He died Dec. 22, 1928, at Fort Madison, Iowa, aged 65 years, 9 months and 5 days.
March 5, 1893, he was married to Julia Sibley of Arbela, Mo, where they started their married life on a farm. Mr. Hartley farmed near Kahoka, then went to Iowa to work. Death came as the result of a stroke that reached the heart.
Besides his companion; the following children survive him:
Mrs. Earl Newnham, Ft. Madison, Iowa;
Mrs. Otho Wright, Kahoka, Mo;
Robert, of Ft. Madison, Iowa;
John of LaHarpe, Ill.;
Mrs. George Lawrence, Ft. Collins, Colo.;
Minah and Harold at home.
There are also nineteen grandchildren who survive.Burial took place in the Kahoka cemetery after a funeral service at the Baptist church, conducted by Rev. D.F. Bartine, assisted by E.H. Farmer of the M.E. church South.
Any help on any of these lines would be appreciated. Thank you!
