Do you know what church he attended? There are baptism records and possibly birth records held by the church. Especially the Catholic Church. It is especially hard to find any documents sometimes for births this early but not impossible. When getting a marriage license, a person would have had to given their birth certificate as proof of legal age. I remember my grandmother telling me that sometimes when people were born, they were not even recorded; that and sometimes when they died, they were just put in the back yard.
