DIED

In Keosauqua, Iowa, March 11th, 1877, Mrs. Sarah Ann Strickling, aged 46 years, 3 months and 10 days.

The deceased was a pure christian woman, a good wife and a loving mother and a consistent member of the M. E. church for many years, and up to the time she was called to her heavenly home. She was born in Muskingum, Ohio, December 1st, 1830. the funeral services were conducted at the late residence of the deceased, Rev. Stephenson officiating. A large concourse of friends followed the remains to its last resting place.

Again the death angel has hovered o’er us and borne away on his snowy wings one of the loved and cherished, the idols of our home circle. Who hath breathed the name of mother, and not felt how dark the world would be without her? Who hath known the companionship of a loving, faithful wife, and thought not of the bitterness of separation? Yet none can realize the blank, the dreary void that her absence leaves, ‘till the light in the tender eyes is extinguished forever; the loving voiced hushed; and the hands that have pressed ours so often folded cold and lifeless on the pulseless breast. Then what memories throng to tell of by-gone kindnesses, sacrifices made and weary hours spent to give us pleasure. Volumes might be written and half not told to prove a mother’s love—a wife’s solitude. Knowing then, how great the loss must be, how dark that cloud that hangs above the stricken home, we extend our hands in warmest sympathy, and knowing how little we can say to alleviate the pain, or lighten the heavy cross, we can but point the sorrowing ones to Him, who though He bereaveth us, “doeth all things well.”
