Margaret Jane, second daughter of John and Eliza Ward, was born Sept. 14, 1846 on Vernon Prairie, Van Buren Co., Iowa and departed this life May 5, 1912, at her home in Bonaparte, aged 65 years, 7 months and 21 days. She grew to womanhood on the home farm, attending the district school just across the highway from her home and bearing her father's name.
On Nov. 1, 1866, she was united in marriage with Alfred Wolfe. To this union three children were born, Harry W., who died May 4, 1902; Mary, now Mrs. William Blackburn of Hillsboro, Ore., and one child who died in infancy.
Mrs. Wolfe was the youngest of a family of seven children, who grew to manhood and womanhood. One sister and four brothers have preceded her to the great beyond, leaving one brother, Calvin S. Ward of Vernon Prairie, to mourn the loss of an affectionate sister. After their marriage in 1866 Mr. and Mrs. Wolfe commenced the voyage of life in a log cabin just north of his father's farm on Vernon Prairie. In 1870 they purchased a small farm, adjoining his father's farm which Mr. Wolfe still owns. In April 1903 they moved to the present home in Bonaparte.
Besides her brother mentioned above, she leaves a devoted husband, one daughter and five grandchildren, to mourn the loss of a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
The subject of this obituary united with the Methodist church at Center Chapel, December 1886 under the pastorate of Rev. Wm. Potter. Mrs. Wolfe was of a cheerful nature and, having lived all her life within five miles of the place of her birth, she enjoyed a very extensive acquaintance who will hear with deep sorrow of her sudden passing away.
Added from Entler Scrapbook:
