Mrs. Geo. T. Ward

Mrs Nannie B. Johnson Ward, wife of Geo. T. Ward of Chicago and sister of Mrs. Geo. F. Smith of Keosauqua, passed away at Lakeside Hospital, Chicago, Saturday, June 6, at 7:35 a.m. after a long illness.

Mrs. Ward, who was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Johnson, was born at Bonaparte Oct. 29, 1850, being aged 63 years, 8 months and 8 days. She attended the schools of Bonaparte and was one of the most popular young ladies of that place.

April 12, 1877, she was united in marriage to Geo. T. Ward, a live stock commission merchant of Chicago, and henceforth her home was in that city. Two children were born to them, Mrs. T. H. Miller and Mrs. C. N. Eastman, both of Chicago. The latter was a resident of Keosauqua a number of years, where Mr. Eastman was engaged in the lumber business.

Mr. and Mrs. Ward had planned to move to Bucklin, Mo., near Mr. Ward's stock farm and had shipped their household goods to that place, when Mrs. Ward suffered a stroke of paralysis and in falling one of her limbs was fractured. Her limb healed, but the shock and confinement were too much for her enfeebled system, and she passed away Saturday, her immediate family and Mrs. Smith of this place and Mr. George B. Johnson, a brother of Ft. Worth, Texas, being at her side.

The burial was at Monmouth, Ill., where Mr. Ward's people are buried, Monday afternoon, J. A. Johnson of Bonaparte, a brother, joining the funeral party there.

[I would like to hear from anyone with a connection to this family. - Rich]
