Death of A Pioneer.

At the home of her son. A. W. Anderson, in Van Buren township, Lee County Wednesday, December 21, 1904, at 8:30 a. m. Mrs. Esther Anderson, aged 89 years, 10 months and 22 days.

Deceased was born in Greenbrier county, West Virginia, January 29, 1815. May 24, 1836, she was united in marriage, to John Anderson, who passed to the other shore in the year of 1865. In the year of 1854 they moved to the farm and home in which she has lived for fifty years, with the exception of three years in Bonaparte and a year and a half in Donnellson. To this union were born eight children, three of whom have passed into the great beyond.

Those who have survived are: Alexander, who resides on the old home place; Elixa, who lives adjoining the old home; Silas, who lives in Hobart, Okla.; Mrs. Emily Bennett of Farmington and Mrs. Virginia Hotze of Carson, Iowa. Mrs. Anderson was the grandmother of sixteen grandchildren , sixteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Grandmother Anderson was converted in her early childhood and joined the M. E. church of which she has since been a faithful member. Until the past few years she has been an active worker in the Baptist church of Warren, always looking towards the uplifting and welfare of those around her. Her first thought was always "what would Jesus have me do?"

So ended the life of one whose dear, ever-smiling pleasant face will be missed for many a year in the home and neighborhood.

The funeral was held at the Baptist church Friday, December 23. It was conducted by Rev. Lee, pastor of that church, whose sermon was appropriate. In it he used her life as an example in pointing others to the happy land to which Grandma has gone. They then repaired to the Boley cemetery southeast of Warren, where her remains were laid to rest beside her husband.
